Matthew Hall is an artist working with the overlap of communication languages. The central focus is placing textual and visual language together to form meaning that could not be transferred by either language alone. Past projects have included the artwork featured on this site, design work for several theatre companies and businesses in Salt Lake City, and partnering in the founding of Gray Wall Gallery, and currently pursuing an MFA at The Pennsylvania State University.

Work History

The Pennsylvania State University

While pursuing an MFA, I am working as a graduate assistant in the printmaking department. My teaching assignments have been a TA in ART 240 and as primary instructor for the same course.

Gray Wall Gallery – August 2010–August 2011:

As a founding partner and gallery curator for Gray Wall Gallery, I took on duties of publicity, show installation, submission review, and promotion of the gallery

Mills Publishing – July 2006–August 2011:

At Mills Publishing I have been responsible for the design and production work for a variety of arts programs and trade publications. Recent work includes playbills for Ballet West, Salt Lake Acting Company and Ririe-Woodbury. University of Utah Basketball game day program covers, and the complete redesign of Salt Lake REALTOR® Magazine. I have regularly been assigned multiple tasks of importance to the company. I have as well been the copy editor for Outdoor Sports Guide Magazine.

Institute for the Electronic Arts at Alfred University – Spring 2006:

During this internship I was responsible for scanning and printing on a variety of printers. Highlights of my work include assisting with printing for works by Ann Hamilton, and the packaging design and production of DVD’s for the Vasulka Video Archive.
